Tape Job!

Oh, our little Owen is a sneaky little guy! He has gotten so good at turning his head from one side to another to move his oxygen around, and even to reach up and try to rip it out, that they had to take drastic measures last night. Yes, they TAPED it to his nose! HA! A little 27 weeker isn't going to outsmart us! :) Pretty darn cute, isn't it? I just checked on him in his little isolette and he managed to turn his head from facing the right to the left...and in the process got both nose tubes stuck up one nostril! He'll show us - he's still the one in charge!

In health related news, Owen's head ultrasound came back and it's mixed results. His Grade 1 bleed has not changed, which is great. However, they are noticing some increased fluid in his another area of his brain. They are worried that it could be blocking the flow of spinal fluid so they did a CAT scan today for further testing. They said it is not causing any cognitive issues (or otherwise) and it seems like a minor blockage, but they definitely needed to do further analysis. They sent the CAT scan over to Children's for a neurologist to review - we should know the results tomorrow. The dr said most likely they will just want to watch it as Owen grows (on a weekly basis) to make sure he outgrows it. Worst case scenario, the neurologist will want to insert a shunt into his brain to allow for drainage. However, we just need to wait and see tomorrow. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers!

Owen is still on oxygen - high flow, but he's down to 1 liter flow. This is the lowest the machine can be set to. He's kicking butt!

Due to Owen's growth they also increased his caloric intake to 27 calories per serving, up from 26. This is the most calorie fortification they will do to his food. Once he hits certain weight milestones, they actually decrease the number of calories they insert. Grow Owen Grow!!!!
