Sleepy Breather!

Owen is a sleepy little guy. So sleepy, in fact, that today he forgot to breathe a few times today because he fell into such a deep sleep!!! He gave us a few scares today when his oxygen saturation levels dropped dangerously low. He's definitely going to be grounded for this once he gets older!!!!

The doctor ordered a few tests to find out what was going on, and it turns out he was taking too many shallow breaths and his carbon monoxide levels were too high as a result (there's lots of science behind why this happened, but I'll leave it at that!) So, the doc ordered that he switch back to high flow oxygen (instead of low flow, like he's on now) to give him an extra ummmph. Immediately after the switch, his numbers went right back where they were supposed to be he looked much more comfortable.

Owen also was having troubles digesting his new fortified breast milk. He did really well on plain breast milk, but once fortifier was added he started to act like he was uncomfortable. He also spit up a bit yesterday, which I had never seen before! It's a very sad thing to see a little dude on oxygen spit up...doesn't have many places to go! So, starting today they're switching him back to plain breast milk for a few days to see how he does.

On the bright side, he's still growing! I stayed for his 8pm 'cares' today and we weighed him - he's at 2 pounds 15 ounces! An ounce in one day - go Owen go!

Owen is 16 days old today!
