Daddy's Birthday (and an impressive weight gain!)

Owen gave Daddy the best birthday present of all today - he gained THREE ounces! Yep, he's officially up to 3 pounds, 6 ounces! The nurse had us weigh him twice to confirm because she couldn't believe he gained so much in 24 hours. Go Owen go! We noticed he felt 'bigger' today. Specifically, he has a little name band that's around his wrist and it used to be able to slip off around his entire hand! Not anymore - it's almost snug! The night nurse was going to 'upgrade' him to a larger one tonight so as he grew it wouldn't get too tight this next week.

Overall Owen had a great day. He is still on high flow cannula, but he really only needs it when he's a) eating or b) taking a bathroom break. He's not very good at multi-tasking, so the oxygen levels really drop during those two activities. It's not a huge issue to keep him on the high flow a bit longer (it's not like he's coming home next week, after all!) so they are going to keep him on high flow for a bit longer to let his lungs develop before they begin 'testing' him again by removing it.

All of the nurses are in love with Owen. We have one day nurse and one night nurse each day, but it seems like we have a handful during each shift! They all want to come in and see him and see how he's doing. It's a great feeling knowing he's so well loved and well cared for, even when we're not there! They also keep telling us we have the cutest baby they have seen in a long time. I'm sure they tell every parent that, but we think they're right! :)

Rory held Owen for two hours today - Owen was so calm and loved it! It was a really nice birthday present for him (sadly, he didn't even get a present from me....we've been a bit preoccupied for me to go shopping!) I took a few really cute photos of him 'multi-tasking' while holding him, but of course I'm home now and the camera is at the hospital. So, I will post them tomorrow!

Owen is 23 days old today!
