Little O has found his lungs!!!!! The past two days have been so much fun. It's a combination of the medicine helping increase his red blood cells so he has more energy, and him getting a little older so he's more mature. He is now waking up hungry for every feed! This is HUGE - it means his body is mature enough to know 'hey, I'm hungry. I should wake up and try to eat.' Sounds silly to parents who have only had term babies (to even imagine a baby that wouldn't wake up when hungry), but this is a huge deal. Before the past few days, he would sleep right through his feeds if we let him.
Also, he now cries when he is upset. Most parents would think that is a bad thing, but we are SO happy to hear his little lungs work. It shows how strong he is! (Yes, ask us again in a few months and we will probably say it was easier while he was quieter, but for now we're loving it!) Finally, he is staying awake for so much longer each day. After his 11:30 cares, he stayed up until almost 2pm with huge eyes exploring everything!
Owen is doing a great job breast feeding. He took 42 cc's yesterday - over 2/3 of his feed! He breast fed a few times today and did a great job - he's progressively taking more and more each time.
Finally, all of the nurses are helping us cross everything off of our 'going home list' they taped to the mirror in Owen's room. It's fun knowing the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and closer.
By the way, Owen weighed in at 6lb 12oz last night! Yea!
Owen is 10 weeks old today - 37 Gestational Weeks (3 weeks away from being full term!)
Yeah, I'm a bad mommy again this week. I'll post his Sophie picture tomorrow!!!
