Another step forward!

YEA! We arrived at Owen's room today and he was not only still off of high flow cannula, but they even removed the equiptment from his room! YEA!

Also, Owen has really figured out this whole feeding thing. I really think he heard us talking about wanting to go home, because all of a sudden everything is just 'clicking' for him! Today he successfully breastfed! We weighed him before and after and he successfully took in about 1/3 of his total feeding (he's up to 49 cc's per feed at this point). The nurses keep commenting that they cannot believe how well he is doing for his gestational age. He isn't even 34 gestational weeks and he's already come so far with his eating skills. We're so, so proud of him!

One of our absolute favorite nurses (HI MAGGIE!!!!!!) is a primary for Owen - meaning she has him whenever she's there. She works nights, so we chatted with her tonight about Owen's progress. She's off for the next 11 days and if he keeps progressing this quickly, we might not have her that many more days! She did tell us more about the limitations we'll need to enforce once Owen is home. Due to being born so young, he has a very weak immune system. So, for the first two years of his life, no crowded spaces during flu season. She said flu seasons typically runs from October to May, and we'll need to avoid restaurants, malls, airports - basically anywhere indoors where people congregate. Not sure how that will affect our holidays and going to see family...but we'll have to figure something out!
