I can breathe clearly now....

the high flow cannula's gone! Yep - you read right. Owen is officially off of ALL oxygen - he no longer is on any breathing support at all. Yea!!!!!

Even better, Owen finished his first WHOLE bottle today! We are so proud of him! Both of these accomplishments today are HUGE steps towards going home. We're still a minimum of two weeks away if everything goes smoothly (and things rarely do in the NICU) but we feel so much closer to going home now than we did yesterday.

Yesterday Rory fed Owen during one of the feedings. Here's a shot of them in action. Note how Rory is holding Owen - on his side. This hold allows Owen to let the milk pool in his cheek so he can swallow when he wants instead of it pooling in the back of his throat and choking him. Neat, huh? Also remember this was taken yesterday so note he still has the high flow cannula on. Feedings are SO MUCH EASIER without the oxygen cords.

Keep your fingers crossed Owen stays off high flow tonight too! We're hoping we don't show up tomorrow and find him back on it because he struggled tonight.

Finally - Owen's growing like a weed! He's 5lb 5oz! Grow Owen Grow!!
