Day by Day....

Well, for every one step forward we take two steps back!

Today was a rough day for our little guy. We arrived this morning to see he was back on the cpap. The nurse explained that he was struggling to breathe last night on the high flow cannula, so they put him back on the cpap to give his little lungs a rest. They're going to try to go back to the high flow cannula tomorrow.

Today they performed an echo on Owen because last night they heard a heart murmur. The doctor reassured me that it is very common for babies to have heart murmurs and the vast majority of the time they heal themselves without any intervention. Sometimes a few rounds of medicine are necessary to help the valve close, and very rare surgery is necessary. However, he said it all depended on how big of an issue the echo picked up. They think they will have the results back tonight so keep your fingers crossed for us!

Mommy and Daddy are doing OK. I had a really rough time leaving him last night, so tonight I'm staying in his room with him. Rory's doing well with his flex schedule that Boeing is allowing him to work on. He's working from home in the morning and comes up to Owen's room around lunch and stays until the evening. I was able to hold him for an hour again today (which was amazing). Ever since he felt his first big dose of human touch yesterday he is much more vocal - we've even heard a few mighty (for him) cries. He now loves be comforted by either Rory or I holding his hand or rubbing on his head. Sadly, we still have to keep him under the bili-lamp, so we can't hold him more frequently than an hour a day, but we can hold his hand all day if we want!

Owen is 5 days old today.
